Don't Expect Anything New From Biden's State of the Union Speech

After watching Pres. Biden's Thursday speech , it's clear that he is not boldly leading the Western response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. This is, of course, in the context that it doesn't appear he is running his own administration's policy on anything. Every policy and act that they have taken has no connection to any position he has previously taken over his long Senate career. He seems to be a figurehead that goes out and clumsily justifies whatever policy his top advisors come up with. Given all that, he did a reasonable impression of a president. Not a President of the United States, or a global leader, but maybe the president of a supporting ally.    Pres. Biden is wholly unequipped to deal with Pres. Putin's actions in Ukraine, and it's been evident for some time. The Afghanistan fiasco probably was the clearest signal to Putin that this was the best time to continue his aggression against Ukraine. Of course, there were domestic Rus...

This Week's Dumb Things Said and Done by Various People

There have been a bunch of dumb things said and done by various people in the public square this week. As usual, it's hard to decide where to start, and how many to include. Justin Trudeau and Hillary Clinton are the obvious leaders, even though I posted about her earlier this week , and Trudeau last week . Joe Biden is in the running every week, so he and his administration have to be mentioned. New York's Governor and leading officials deserve a place, and even NYC's Mayor Adams will be included. My final point will be about the general dumb reactions of the left-wing media, when they get exposed as wrong. Even when they know it, they double down, instead of owning up, for the most part.    When it comes to Justin Trudeau, he's done something that even Pres. Biden hasn't accomplished: The Canadian Civil Liberties Association, the Canadian version of the ACLU, has filed suit against his emergency declaration. Of course, Biden hasn't done anyth...

Clinton Campaign Spied On Trump Tower, Home, and the Executive Office of the President of the United States

Hillary Clinton is back in the news this week, or rather, her 2016 campaign is. Special Counsel Durham has made another filing, and it is explosive. It relates to the previous indictment of a lawyer for the campaign, John Sussman, and the actions of his unindicted co-conspirator, "Tech Executive-1," who has been unmasked as Rodney Joffe, a former employee of Neustar, Inc. According to The Wall Street Journal : The indictment says Mr. Joffe used his companies, as well as researchers at a U.S. university, to access internet data, which he used to gather information about Mr. Trump’s communications. Mr. Durham says Mr. Joffe’s “goal” was to create an “inference” and “narrative” about Mr. Trump that would “please certain ‘VIPs,’ referring to individuals at [Perkins Coie] and the Clinton Campaign.” The new shocker relates to the data Mr. Joffe and friends were mining. According to Friday’s filing, as early as July 2016 Mr. Joffe was “exploit[ing]” his “access to non-public and/o...

A Few Questions I Have To Ask

There is so much crazy stuff going on in the world this week, there's no way I could comment on all of it. Instead of making lengthy comments, I thought that I might try to just ask a few questions, relating to the ones that stand out the most to me. I guess I'm still trying to find a format that I can follow on a weekly basis, but that may not be a realistic goal. Some weeks there are a bunch of stupid public statements, and some weeks I just have to disagree with one of my favorite media hosts. This week, I'm going to try a different approach, though it was inspired by some commentators I watched this week.    One of the biggest issues on most news shows has been the Canadian trucker protest against their vaccine mandate. It's become an international issue, because the truckers have shut down the bridge between the US and Canada that carries millions of dollars in trade every day. I am no fan of impeding trade, or transportation. In fact,  I am on th...

Why I Still Like Tucker Carlson, Even as I Disagree With Him on Ukraine

Tucker Carlson is entertaining, and almost as much of a pompous blowhard as was Bill O'Reilly, who he replaced in Fox News Channel's 8:00 PM primetime slot. Being a pompous blowhard seems to be a prerequisite of having high ratings on cable news. That's why I don't hold it against him. In fact, I appreciate his rather pompous take on the many issues that I agree with him on, though I occasionally roll my eyes. My point is that if he wasn't expressing popular points of view, he wouldn't have such high ratings. It's worth noting that in today's America, where speaking your political opinion can cost you your job, someone who says what you are thinking in such a blunt way has a natural attraction.    One issue I disagree with him on is his position about Ukraine. He seems dead set against the US doing anything to support Ukraine's resistance to a Russian invasion, saying that we are risking war with Russia. I respect his opinion, but have an issue wi...
