BLAME for the BLAMELESS
The natural disaster that has claimed over 50,000 lives around the Indian Ocean is already devolving into a sicko media "blame game". If they had a certain type of technology, fewer would have died, it's being reported. This type of occurence is rarer than Mt. Vesuvius erupting, but people still live there without any certain early warning technology. They could just be talking about a kind of communications system to warn the nations whose coastlines are threatened, but it wasn't in place. I'll bet one will be created soon, though this type of thing isn't likely to happen for another few hundred years, now. The extent of the damage and loss of life are staggering, and I know that the US will be on the forefront of nations offering aid and assistance. I hope the media can keep from putting blame on the US somehow for not giving away some undefined "system" or "technology", instead of asserting that the nations of the reigon didn't think it was worth buying because of the small risk of what ended up occuring. Watch the news, and tell me which version you hear reported. Remember the words "natural disaster" whenever you hear the media blame the blameless. No one is to blame for this massive loss of life. We can only pray for those touched by this tragedy.

The tsunami that rocked me
How much do I really care about the tsunami that killed over 14,000 people in South East Asia -- over a third of them from my country? Not too much. Actually, I did not even twitch my eyebrows -- nor did I see any such reaction from the people I was with -- when we first heard the news.
While my country (read rescue teams, bereaved families and survivors) was battling this wrath of Nature, I was busy improving my F3 lap timings. The only thing common was probably the head-rush.
I was driving this tiny kart at 40 kmph impressing all around me. The tsunami drove at over 400 kmph driving people dead and the survivors homeless.
It's funny but I was secretly admiring the prowess of the tsunami. The videos were showing cars (heavy ones like Ambassadors) being swept away -- majestically, I thought. How cold-blooded am I?
I do not understand how I can be so indifferent about disasters. They simply fail to affect me. Tsunamis have absolutely no significance in my life.
It is only those 'small', 'normal', 'nothing to be made a big deal about' moments that affect me. That affected my-life -- the tsunami that rocked me.
