STOP THE ACLU BLOGBURST: WHAT WE ARE UP AGAINST

Unfortunately, I am working crazy hours again this week. (Wed. 4PM -Thurs. 8AM, back at 4 PM Thurs. until midnight!) Enjoy the drawing! Here's the "late edition", updated early Friday...

To understand the magnitude of the foe we face in the ACLU, read this excerpt from a CRA news release:

Peter B. Lewis, chairman and CEO of Progressive Auto Insurance, recently donated $8 million to the ACLU. In 2001, he donated $7 million to match a $14 million challenge from the Ford Foundation.
"This large donation from one person shows us that the ACLU is even more dangerous than ever," said Dr. D. James Kennedy, founder and president of the CENTER FOR RECLAIMING AMERICA. "With millions of dollars in reserve, they can—and have—intimidated local governments into backing down without even seeing their case go to court. For instance, a small-town mayor from Ohio rescinded his own 'Bible Week' proclamation, simply because he got a threatening letter from the ACLU.
"How many more such attacks will happen with this $8 million donation?" Dr. Kennedy asked.

TOO MANY.

Cannabis News has an interesting article explaining that most of Mr. Lewis' 2001 donation went to the organization's drug-policy litigation project, which is challenging such practices as drug testing in schools and restrictions on medical marijuana. It also mentions that his contribution increased the ACLU's endowment fund to almost 37 million. (-hat tip to Google for both of these stories)

The scary part is how much its finances have grown since 2001, as noted by BobG over at SSOA in today's blogburst. Still, I look at the ACLU as just another goliath to be slain, as was the USSR, and as the Islamofascists will be. Speaking of which, I wonder if Mr. Lewis cares about the ACLU's support of terrorists' rights at Gitmo, and opposition to reasonable attempts to thwart the next terrorist attack here in the US.

All of this brings me back to this week's STOP THE ACLU blogburst drawing, which was drawn shortly after the 1983 Beirut barracks bombing, while I was in the USMC. I wanted to take on those bastards back then, as symbolized in the drawing. Today, as we are finally engaging that enemy, the ACLU is taking their side. Thus, I see STOP THE ACLU as the hero, diving into the fight against unimagineable odds.
